How We Serve
Here at Ohio Valley Christian Center, we are committed to serving our city, our country, and our world. We believe that all of these communities need and deserve the attention of the Church, and we strive to leverage our resources to answer as many practical and spiritual needs as possible.
Here are a few of the ways we serve:
Each year we help many in Wheeling and Ohio County overcome spiritual and material challenges. Jesus said, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8) We offer prayer, ministry and spiritual deliverance through the name of Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit. The more culture wanders away from God, the more spiritual breakthroughs will mean. God is our ONLY hope and we boldly offer agreement and direction to receive those breakthroughs at all times.
We are not wealthy, but we also help meet all kinds of needs. Every year, about 50 million Americans struggle to provide enough food for their families (see more stats here). At Ohio Valley Christian Center, we want to be a part of the solution.
Many of our members here at Ohio Valley Christian Center routinely respond to specific national needs during times of crisis. We are especially proud of the times that our community service is expressed organically. In other words, we love it when people volunteer to help during a time of national need even before the church has a chance to put together a formal program. This kind of instant response demonstrates the life of servanthood that Jesus modeled.
While we certainly don’t love war, many of our members have bravely served and continue to serve in the armed forces. Again, while we want nothing more than for the world to experience true peace under the leadership of the King of kings, we recognize that men and women are called to serve and defend in the mean time. Here at Ohio Valley Christian Center, we are tremendously proud of those in our congregation who choose to put themselves in harm’s way to protect their friends, families, and country. Please take a look at our tribute to these men and women.
This past year, Ohio Valley Christian Center was highly distinguished for it’s giving in 2012 and 2013. The financial support we offered went to help missionaries who are providing clean water to thirsty people of the world, fighting poverty, hunger, poor education and medical care, along with a host of abuses like human trafficking, the dehumanization of women, and drug addiction. We are thrilled beyond words to know that our giving is making a difference in the lives of real people, all over the world.
HOME AND WORLD MISSIONS SERVICE
As often as possible, we go on short-term mission trips, supporting long term ministries in the countries we visit. Most of these trips are to developing countries. To date, members from Ohio Valley Christian Center have served on three continents of the earth.
